Our story: from passion to profession

Hey there! I’m so glad you stopped by. I’m sure you would like to know a little about how AKACHI Braids Artistry was born, so here goes.

My name is Faith, and I am the founder of AKACHI Braids Artistry. Growing up in Nigeria, formal education was paramount, but my parents also recognized my gift of skill early on and encouraged me to explore it. During summer breaks, I was introduced to hair braiding apprenticeships, as the neighborhood hair braider would be paid a small amount to train me as I shadowed and assisted in salon tasks. They were always astonished by my quick grasp of their crafts.

Upon being sent to North America for college, I began putting my beginner skills to work to support myself financially, building my skills within a small community of friends. Shortly after moving to the USA, I found my identity in Christ, and through that, I discovered my passion for beautifying people through exceptional braiding that cares for the health of their natural hair. It was clear that this was meant to be more than just a side hustle.

To be where I envisioned, I needed more than my average braiding skills and lack of industry experience. Although nearly futile, I convinced a salon to let me assist in minor tasks, while i built confidence by improving my braiding skills and customer service for hair braiding. On December 29th, 2023, I abandoned my doubts, fears, and committed to follow God on this journey. AKACHI Braids Artistry was born, stamped and sealed by the Secretary of State. “AKACHI” means “hand of God” in Igbo, my Nigerian native language, serving as a constant reminder that we have been gifted by God to do this work.

To meet client demands, I trained a younger family member in the skill of braiding. Through teaching her, I discovered my passion for building the next generation of skilled entrepreneurs. This led to the creation of our hair braiding classes and summer hair braiding camps, through which we empowered 31 girls & women in under 24 months of launching.

Remembering my struggles to perfect my craft through salon experience, we launched our apprenticeship program to enable beginner & intermediate braiders to easily begin their journey to expertise.

I am thankful for your support, which has given me the opportunity to turn my passions into a sustainable profession.

Please, stick around for the journey ahead!
